Teja graduated from Rice University in 2017 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and has also completed a Master of Public Health and Master of Medical Sciences degree. She is currently in the midst of applying to medical schools.

During her time at Rice University, she performed research at MD Anderson Cancer Center using bioinformatics approaches to increase cytotoxic T-cell activity against breast cancer. She also has a 2nd author publication in the Frontiers of Pharmacology journal and was awarded the Distinction in Research and Creative Works at graduation.

Teja was in Engineers Without Borders and traveled to Nicaragua to design and implement water distribution systems for rural communities. She also taught science to children in underprivileged areas of Northwest India using locally available materials to create models and visual aids. In her free time, Teja enjoys baking French macarons, running and reading mystery novels.
