Sybil, formally known as Dr. Nelson, is a homeschool mom of two wonderful girls, a biostatistician, author, professor, among other things. Having a strong history in education, Sybil has worked as a math teacher in Washington DC and locally at Ashley Hall School in the past, and is currently working as a professor at the Citadel. Sybil’s research interests include classification and prediction of disease using data mining, Decision Trees, more specifically logic regression, and Random Forests.
Sybil has published numerous research papers, research presentations and writes children’s stories under a pseudonym. A Jill of all trades, Sybil is also a vegan and is constantly contributing delicious recipes to the world of the internet. In her free time, she is a panelist in mentoring presentations to encourage undergraduate minorities to pursue graduate degrees (at least twice per year each year at MUSC), she works on the MUSC College of Graduate Studies Admissions Committee, and she volunteers as a Homework Helper at Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC).
