Education: Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), MD Expected 2021 Furman University, BS in Neuroscience
Lives in Charleston, SC, United States
Lindsay is headed to the University of Washington (Seattle) to complete her residency in internal medicine after completing her MD degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is excited to pursue a career in internal medicine because of the emphasis the field has on clinical problem solving, the variety of opportunities that training in internal medicine offers, and the breadth of knowledge required by internists. She is interested in several subspecialties including HIV medicine, hematology/oncology, critical care, and palliative care.
For undergrad, Lindsay graduated with a BS in Neuroscience from Furman University. While at Furman, she tutored other students in Biological Psychology and Psychology Methods/Statistics courses. She also taught Spanish to senior citizens through the university’s lifelong learning program. After graduating, Lindsay worked for several years at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA, on projects working to elucidate the biological mechanisms of cancer and to identify novel targets for cancer immunotherapies. She currently works for an organization which provides emergency shelter beds and permanent housing opportunities to vulnerable adults experiencing chronic homelessness, chemical dependency, and mental illness.
Lindsay was drawn to neuroscience because she wanted to explore how biological mechanisms determine and influence subjective experience and behavior; she is currently applying to medical school because she wants to apply her scientific acumen and interest in the objectives realities of the body in order to act as a compassionate physician who can address patients’ individual needs. As a medical student, she remains fascinated by the brain and is most curious about the fields of neurology and psychiatry. Lindsay took the MCAT in April of 2016, and with a fresh memory for the feeling of overwhelm this comprehensive test can evoke, she is motivated to help you to develop an organized and strategic study plan in order to succeed on your test day. Lindsay is prepared to adjust to your personal learning style as you tackle together the MCAT subject matter which most concerns you.
In her spare time, Lindsay loves to read, stay active, and contemplate strategies for mitigating the suffering of others.
