Los Angeles MCAT tutor Gurjit K. graduated from UCLA in 2016 with a degree in Physiological Sciences and a minor in Society and Genetics. Following graduation, she worked as an AmeriCorps member with City Year Los Angeles, serving as a full-time tutor and mentor to a fourth-grade classroom in Watts, Los Angeles.
Upon completing her service year, she returned home to Central California and co-founded the health education and outreach program for a non-profit health organization. Her team reached hundreds of families across 30+ clinics to provide information and resources about various topics including stress, mental health, exercising, and domestic violence.
After a year of supporting families within her local community, she returned to Los Angeles to complete a post-baccalaureate program at UCLA. During this post-baccalaureate year, she self-studied for the MCAT and earned a 517, placing herself in the 95th percentile.
She currently is in the process of applying to medical school while splitting her time working full-time at an ophthalmology clinic, volunteering at a non-profit clinic and tutoring. She has been teaching with varying degrees of formality for 5+ years. She enjoys tutoring because it allows her to support the specific needs of each individual. She finds great joy in helping others reach their educational goals.
Outside of tutoring, she enjoys painting, basketball, and eating good food while spending time with her loved ones.
