Instead of asking you to conform to our plans, our tutors go the extra mile to create customized strategies depending on your unique needs to set you up for success. We want to make sure you fully understand the logic behind the test and actually learn the material so you’ll be prepared for anything thrown your way on exam day. New to USMLE Step 1 prep? Here’s some information about the first part of the USMLE®:

Usually taken during year two of medical school, USLME’s Step 1 exam (commonly referred to as The Boards) is one of the many factors residency programs use to select candidates. Step 1 is meant to test not only a student’s understanding of foundational sciences but their ability to apply these concepts into everyday medical practice. Administered in one eight-hour session, the exam consists of seven forty-questions sections, with a maximum of 280 multiple choice questions peppered throughout.

Don’t know where to start?

We’re here to help! In addition to helping you set up a customized study schedule, your personal tutor will help you determine what your strengths and weaknesses are so you know how to plan out your Step 1 prep.

Below is a breakdown of what you will face when you take the USMLE:

More Info & Resources

Subjects on the Step 1 exam range from medical ethics to microbiology, pathology and everything in between. The test is administered on the computer over the span of eight hours (including breaks) and includes seven sections composed of 40 questions each. You will be given one hour per section with a short break in between each section to stretch. The entirety of Step 1 must be taken in one sitting, so make sure to plan out your day accordingly.

Each Step 1 exam is uniquely generated for the student taking it, so proper preparation is necessary to make sure you have a good foundation in all of the subject matter that may appear. It is highly suggested that students take multiple practice tests to become familiar with the format before the actual exam.

Scores will range between 1-300 with 194 qualifying as passing, and your score will be released around 3-4 weeks after your complete the exam.
