Our Approach

Step 1

When you first sign up for an SSAT test prep package, the first thing we are going to do is take some time to learn about your tutoring needs, schedule, and academic strengths and weaknesses. We do this through practice tests and one-on-one interviews to understand your situation. This way we can match you with a tutor who complements your family’s specific needs and your child’s learning style.

Step 2

While other SSAT private tutoring programs just focus on the exam, we believe that building strong academics is a much better approach as it gives your child skills that they can take with them into future classes. We want to make sure that your child retains the information they learn during their SSAT tutoring, so we utilize customized study plans designed to engage with your child’s learning style.

Step 3

We don’t just want your child to memorize some facts, we want them to become comfortable with the material. Some of the questions they’ll face on test day are designed to be confusing. By incorporating practice problems and practice tests into each student’s study plan, we help familiarize them with the question styles they will encounter on the real SSAT. We’ll also work on strategies to relieve testing anxiety to help ensure that exam day is as stress-free as possible.

When the time comes for your child to start their SSAT prep, some of the information we’ll need includes:

  • 1
What SSAT level are you preparing for?
  • 2
Are you just now beginning your SSAT test prep?
  • 3
Have you taken any SSAT practice tests before?
  • 4
How did you score on each section?
  • 5
Are you struggling with content or strategy?
  • 6
Is there a particular subject you are struggling with?
  • 7
What prep materials are you using?
  • 8
What is your schedule like, and what days/times are you available to work with a tutor?
  • 9
Have you registered for an upcoming SSAT test date?
  • 10
How soon would you like to begin?

New to SSAT prep? Here’s some information about the SSAT:

The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) is a standardized admission test used by many of the top independent schools when considering student enrollment. Students in grades 3-11 are eligible to take the SSAT to use in applications for the following school year or for a Post-Graduate year.

There are three levels of the SSAT depending on your grade:

  • Elementary Level (grades 3-4)
  • Middle Level (grades 5-7)
  • Upper Level (grades 8-11)

Every level of the SSAT test is broken up into four sections: Quantitative, Verbal, Reading Comprehension, and a Writing Sample. This test is designed to assess students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills in order to give potential independent and private schools an idea of a student’s potential. Although there are different versions of the SSAT used every testing year, The Enrollment Management Association uses “score equating” to make adjustments during grading to compensate for any differences in difficulty. This helps give every student an equal chance so that they can be evaluated fairly.

The SSAT “Flex” Test

The SSAT is administered on 8 test days during the year. (Check the SSAT main page to find test dates and a testing center near you.) If for some reason you can’t attend one of the standard test days then you can register for one of the SSAT “Flex” Tests. These are SSAT exams administered on a flexible date that has been approved by schools. You can only take one “Flex” test per testing year.
