The Total Score
  • Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
    200-800, 65 minutes reading section, 35 minute writing and language section
  • Math
    200-800, 25 minute no calculator section, 55 minute calculator section
Total SAT score ranges from 400-600

Breakdown of the SAT

The SAT lasts for 3 hours. If you choose to do the optional essay, the total time is 3 hours 50 minutes. Unlike the old SAT, there is no guessing penalty on the 2016 SAT. So even if you feel insecure about a question’s answer choices, always answer it! Unlike the older versions of the SAT, the 2016 SAT is available in both print and computer format.
