Our Approach
Step 1
When you first sign up for a PSAT test prep package, the first thing we are going to do is take some time to learn about your tutoring needs, schedule, and experience with the exam. We do this through practice tests and one-on-one interviews to understand your situation. This way we can match you with a tutor who complements your family’s specific needs and learning style.
Step 2
While other PSAT test prep programs just focus on the exam, we believe that building strong academics is a much better approach as it gives your child academic skills that they can take with them into future classes. We want to make sure that your child retains the information they learn during their PSAT tutoring, so we utilize customized study plans designed to engage with your child’s learning style.
Step 3
We don’t just want your child to memorize some facts, we want them to become comfortable with the material. Some of the questions they’ll face on test day are designed to be confusing. By incorporating practice problems and practice tests into each student’s study plan, we help familiarize them with the question styles they will encounter on the real PSAT. We’ll also work on strategies to relieve testing anxiety to help ensure that exam day is as stress-free as possible.
When the time comes for your child to start their PSAT prep, some of the information we’ll need includes:
-
1What year are you in high school?
-
2Are you just now beginning your PSAT test prep?
-
3Have you taken the PSAT or any practice tests before?
-
4How did you score on each section?
-
5Are you struggling with content or strategy?
-
6What prep materials are you using?
-
7What is your schedule like, and what days/times are you available to work with a tutor?
-
8Have you registered for an upcoming PSAT test date?
-
9How soon would you like to begin?

New to PSAT prep? Here’s some information about the PSAT:
The Preliminary SAT (PSAT/NMSQT) is essentially a practice standardized test to get your child ready for the SATs, however, you can earn scholarship money depending on your test scores. It is administered through College Board and can be taken once a year. Most students take the PSAT during their last two years of high school. The exam is designed to give students an idea of what they need to work on before taking the actual SATs, which makes it an extremely important part of your child’s overall SAT test prep.
This particular standardized test focuses on reading and mathematics. The entire test is administered over a period of 2 hours and 45 minutes and is broken up into 4 subsections:
- Evidence-Based Reading
- Writing and Language
- Math (With a Calculator)
- Math (With No Calculator)
PSAT/NMSQT Scholarships
The PSAT is sometimes also referred to as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). When a student takes the PSAT/NMSQT, their test scores are automatically submitted to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the National Hispanic Recognition Program, the National Scholarship Service, and the Telluride Seminar Scholarships for consideration. College Board will also work with different programs such as The Jackie Robinson Foundation to connect students with potential scholarship programs that they qualify for.
