At Tutor the People we understand the importance of education, which is why we focus on truly learning the material and building foundations when we work with students. Anybody can create a generic lesson plan or teach a student what facts to memorize, but this isn’t the kind of tutoring that’s going to help them in the long-term. The HSPT is a highly competitive test and it can be very intimidating, which is why our expert tutors work with your child every step of the way to build on their knowledge and give them the confidence they need to crush the exam.

We take the time to get to know each student, their strengths/weaknesses, and learning style so that we can create a customized lesson plan designed just for them. Our proven strategies help them understand the materials and logic behind the exam so they can learn how to apply this information in their future classwork as well.

We understand that every child is unique and that every family situation is different. That’s why we offer private tutoring at prices lower than our competitors, and a money back guarantee. Our goal at Tutor the People is to help your child get into the perfect school, which is why we do everything we can to set up our students for success.

Our Approach

The first thing we do is learn about your tutoring needs, schedule, and your child’s learning style so we can match you with a tutor who best suits your family.

We pride ourselves on taking an individualized approach to our HSPT tutoring. We know that “teaching to the test” is only going to work as a short-term fix, but won’t actually help your child when it comes to retaining the information. That’s why we keep the focus on the material behind the test and your child’s specific needs, so we can make sure they fully understand everything from the ground up. We do this by creating customized lesson plans for each student that are as unique as they are. Our goal is to make sure they can take the information and apply it beyond the test to help them succeed in the classroom as well as on the HSPT.

Do you have multiple children preparing for the HSPT? Does your child do better when studying with classmates? No problem! We offer group tutoring on an as-needed basis whenever you’re ready. Available both online and in-person, we do everything we can to match your busy lifestyle and your child’s personal learning needs.

When the time comes for your child to start your HSPT prep, some of the information we’ll need includes:

  • 1
Has your child started any HSPT prep?
  • 2
Do you have a test date scheduled?
  • 3
Has your child taken a HSPT practice test?
  • 4
How did they score on each section?
  • 5
What areas does your child struggle with?
  • 6
What areas are they strong in?
  • 7
What are your best days/times to meet with a tutor?
  • 8
Do you prefer in-person or online tutoring?

New to HSPT prep? Here’s some information about the HSPT test:

The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is a high school admissions exam. It is similar to other tests such as the ISEE, except this test is taken at a very fast pace in order to present a different kind of challenge to the student. The retake policy is at the discretion of the school administering it, but retakes are generally only allowed if there are extenuating circumstances. Due to the pace and importance of the HSPT, it is extremely important to work very hard on a study prep program in order to prepare for the exam.

Don’t know where to start?

Our HSPT prep tutors are here to help! In addition to helping you set up a customized study schedule, your tutor will help determine what your child’s strengths and weaknesses are so you know how to plan out their HSPT prep.

The Total Score
  • Verbal
    60 questions in 16 minutes
  • Quantitative

  • Reading

  • Language

The final score will be calculated into a standard score and a percentile ranking. There are no points deducted for incorrect answers on this exam.

We’re here to help. That’s why your HSPT prep tutor will work one-on-one with your child to understand their unique learning style so we can create a customized study plan that sets them up for success. Our tutoring strategies are proven to boost their scores in each section as well as help them understand the material behind the test. With so many sources out there selling generic lesson plans that rely on straight memorization, we take pride in our personalized approach to tutoring. We believe that taking the extra time to focus on every student as an individual, we can create a better foundation that will help leave a lasting impact on your child’s education.
