Success Stories
After I was disappointed with my GRE score, I knew I had limited options if I wanted to improve before graduate application deadlines. An expensive course was out of the question, both due to my complicated work schedule and the steep financial burden that accompanies the GRE and application fees. Tutor for the People gave me the opportunity to get one on one tutoring with a custom plan that allowed me to improve my score across the board in the small window of time I had available before I retook the GRE test. My tutor was thorough and flexible, and the personalized assistance allowed me to focus exactly on my weaknesses. There is no way I could have improved my score so much on my own. Thank you!

I don't have enough positive words for Tutor the People. I hadn't been in school in 10 years, so the idea of taking the GRE obviously made me a bit apprehensive. As a tutor, Ryan never made me feel like I couldn't achieve the goals that I had set, and was always encouraging. He helped me improve so much in just a few months. His kindness, patience, and focus on the process make him a great tutor for anyone. What really makes Tutor the People stand out is how much they care about their students. During my time studying, I had to take an indefinite hiatus due to a major death in the family. Ryan and Eliza were incredibly supportive during that time. They never pressured me, frequently reached out to check in and see how I was doing, and ask if they could do anything to help me. I'll be forever grateful to both of them, and I absolutely could not have achieved the success that I did without them!

After being out of school for three years, I was not excited to take the GRE. But I wanted to go to graduate school, and since most of the schools I was applying to required it, I knew I had to commit to getting a decent score. The 90-minute weekly sessions I had with my tutor made all the difference. He helped me understand that the most important part of my preparation was not to relearn all of the things I had forgotten since college, but to become a strategic test-taker. He taught me many effective strategies and tricks, which boosted my confidence and enabled me to get above average scores. He was also able to cater to my personal needs as a student. Because I was applying to graduate school for creative writing, my tutor suggested that we spent the bulk of our time focusing on the verbal section, since my prospective schools focused on that score. And that's something a GRE prep textbook or class can't offer. Most importantly, Tutor the People was the most affordable test prep service in the area, and I didn't have to purchase a single book! Thanks to my tutor, I am now on my way to graduate school next year.

The company's affable staff, flexible tutoring schedule and personalized tutoring have made my GRE studying experience easy and enjoyable. I am confident that because of my tutoring I will do very well on my exam.

New to GRE prep? Here’s some information about the GRE:

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is designed to test the student’s critical thinking skills in preparation for most graduate degree programs in the USA. This test can be a determinant for your advanced degree and for setting yourself up for your professional career. Depending on the graduate program, a good GRE score can be the deciding factor when it comes to your acceptance.

The test will take place over the course of 3 hours 45 minutes and will be divided into 6 sections. Click on each section to learn more:

Analytical Writing

This is the first section of the GRE, and it is designed to test the student’s critical thinking and writing skills. You will have to formulate an essay in response to an “issue task” and one in response to an “argument task”.

Verbal Reasoning

There will be two sections devoted to verbal reasoning, but they can be presented in any order. These sections are meant to test a student’s critical analysis as well as vocabulary.

Quantitative Reasoning

There are also two sections devoted to quantitative reasoning, and these can also be organized in any order along with the verbal reasoning sections. This section will test a student’s knowledge of basic math.

This section is used by the exam writers to test potential future questions. The experimental section will not be counted towards your score however, you will not be told which section is experimental.

The GRE is a computer-based test that allows test-takers to go back and change answers and also to skip questions on the test, enabling you to complete the most difficult questions first. In addition, students who take the GRE more than once can choose the ScoreSelect® option, which enables students to choose their best scores from each section to be sent to the schools. The cost to take the test is $195, though ETS offers discounted fees under certain conditions.
