On The Test
The AUD section of the CPA exam will be broken down in the following ways:
Ethics, Professional Responsibilities, and General Principles 15–25%
Assessing Risk and Developing a Planned Response 20–30%
Performing Further Procedures and Obtaining Evidence 30–40%
Forming Conclusions and Reporting 15–25%
The purpose of this section is the test the student’s knowledge in planning the engagement, internal controls, obtaining and documenting information, reviewing engagements and evaluating information and preparing communications. Many students like to think of the AUD as being a kind of extension to the FAR because they have some overlapping material. However, they are two completely different tests and it is recommended that you give the AUD just as much attention as you do to all of the other sections.
Format
Like the other sections, the AUD will include multiple-choice style questions as well as simulations. These questions are designed to test a student’s ability to apply their knowledge rather than just memorize facts, which is why well-rounded AUD test prep is crucial.
The AUD will be divided into 5 testlets (shown below). You will have 4 hours to complete the exam, plus an optional 15-minute break after the third testlet. You do not have to take the full 4 hours, but each testlet will not be individually timed so it is up to the student to manage their time in order to answer every question. Keep in mind that each testlet much be completed before you move on to the next, as you can not reopen any testlets you have submitted.
The 5 testlets that make up the CPA AUD section are:
- 36 Multiple-Choice Questions

- 2 Task-Based Simulations
