Why Is Economics Important?

Economics, or “econ” for short, is the study of the production, consumption, and exchange of goods and services. It is divided into two main categories: macroeconomics and microeconomics. While macroeconomics takes a broad look at an entire country and analyzes its economic performance, microeconomics zooms in on individual industries and focuses on their behaviors. From the way households interact with the market to the theory behind inflation and unemployment, economics explains a lot about the monetary world we live in today.

Economics majors or anyone who has a strong foundation in economics can work in a wide range of careers. Oftentimes when economics comes to mind, we think of people who work at investment companies and financial planning firms since their jobs are directly related to money. However, people who understand economic concepts inside and out can also work for governments and political organizations. There are even others who work in journalism, acting as the middlemen who demystify economics terminology and trends to laypeople. Some experts may enjoy teaching to such an extent that they become econ tutors, and that’s where we come in.
